The costumes Yesodot uses for our traditional Hora style piece (Erev Tov MeYesodot) were purchased in 1994 by Pepe Strauss. These costumes came from the youth Israeli Dance troupes in Mexico. The costumes are now close to 30 years old and are in frequent need of repair.
An influx of 20+ dancers into Yesodot in the fall will mean that Yesodot will have over 35 dancers in the troupe. This presents both a significant and exciting challenge for the upcoming school year. Yesodot will be at its biggest since its inception and does not currently have a set of hora costumes to accommodate every dancer.
We are in the process of working with a costume designer in Mexico to create a new set of hora costumes for Yesodot. We expect the cost to be around $150-$200 per costume (or $6,000 to $7,000 total for 40 costumes). This cost is beyond our annual operating budget which covers the costs of rehearsal space and helps subsidize travel to workshops and festivals as well as purchase accessories to augment our current costume selection.
Here are the first sketches of the costumes:
We are dependent on our Yesodot community to fund the purchase of these costumes.
Please consider donating to help us make this purchase! Any amount helps. Yesodot is a 501c3 organization and all donations are tax deductible.
